I also appreciate how trustworthy all your employees and subcontractors were. I never once worried about who was in my home or felt uncomfortable when I stopped by to see what was going on. I would like preface this with the fact that I am not a fan of home remodeling, whether for want or repair. In my family’s case, it was repair. We needed the ceiling texture in our main living area and kitchen combination completely removed, repaired, replaced and painted. This, we had put off for years due to fear of inadequate contractors, the mess and simple, but anticipated inconvenience.
No one could assuage my concerns until day one of the remodel with the Miller crew. From that point through completion, which came in on time by the way, it was a virtually painless process on a daily basis. After the very first hour I completely relaxed and realized we were in good hands. Each evening we were left with a functional kitchen, which amazed me. The lengths the men went to in order to allow us to function, were over and above the call of duty in our opinion, as they could have left all covers, tarps and plastic, in place each evening. They chose to remove them and to clean up, so that we could access what we needed, and then went to the trouble to repeat the process of covering and protecting the next morning.
Each individual who worked in our home not only was polite and kind, but very communicative, knowledgeable and willing to answer any question we had. Their work was spotless and clean as it comes. They were also in good spirits and obviously enjoy their work.
David, Alan and Rodney Miller have offered us a wealth of information, guidance and suggestions. Whether we should have known any or all of these things before, we did not and we have welcomed and absorbed this like a sponge. This is what we have been looking for in a contract for years and are thankful to have found, both in the Millers and their entire crew.
Winston-Salem
Jill Howard has hired many contractors in her 30 plus years of owning homes. When she needed someone to restore a downstairs’ bathroom which had suffered water damage and neglect, she almost gave up trying to find a competent professional.
“Many were personable, presented well, and had very good references, but performed in a less-than-satisfactory manner,” the Winston-Salem resident said. “A few were absolutely incompetent.”
Ms. Howard contacted Miller Building and obtained a quote. After lengthy questioning and suggestions from David Miller, she received a contract which clearly specified what work and materials would be provided for the quoted price.
MBR added Ms. Howard’s renovations to their schedule for the following month. But David Miller received an emergency call before they could return.
“My mother was injured and confined to a wheelchair,” said Ms. Howard, “I needed a doorway widened immediately, and grab bars installed. Mr. Miller recognized the urgency; and found skilled workmen to do the job the next day.“
In 2007, as Jill Howard considered an upgrade of energy-efficient windows and doors and other improvements to her home, she remembered her satisfaction with MBR.
“I asked three companies to give me an estimate. Mr Miller showed me excellent quality materials, and his estimate was well within the range of the others. Miller Building was again my choice to do the work.”
Jill Howard has seen her heating bill drop from $187 to $133 a month with her new energy-efficient windows.
“My Piedmont Natural Gas account showed a 30% savings during the same two months,” she said of the comparison between December, 2006 and after her windows were installed in December, 2007.
“They look beautiful, and they have added as much value to the house as they cost to install. I believe the customer’s lasting satisfaction with skilled work done is the hallmark of an excellent contractor.“
